I say this to my clients all the time – your outward experiences are a direct reflection of your inner experiences. So if your inner world is unsure or scared or playing small, this will be reflected in what you see around you.
This is not to discount the off-days we all have where we feel a mess or scared, etc. But the general idea here is to take your personal development and mindset work seriously and give it lots of attention, so your inner and outer worlds start to feel a whole lot better.
Plus, I can say with 200% certainty that working on my mindset when it comes to fear and self-doubt is what’s allowed me to create a happy and beautiful life for myself, while helping lots of clients do the same!
But let’s get into the nuts and bolts of what this actually looks like everyday…
MINDSET SHIFT TO OVERCOME FEAR AND SELF-DOUBT #1
First, take a moment and think about all the things you feel afraid of doing, but know you need or want to do in your life.
Now take a moment to walk yourself through to the end of that fear. Play it out all the way. What’s the worst that could happen? And what does that mean for you? And can you handle that?
Answer: OF COURSE YOU CAN!
So often, my clients come to me paralyzed and not taking action on what they truly want because of fear or self-doubt. But, when we actually shine the spotlight on what they’re most afraid of, they realize that the worst-case scenario is actually pretty manageable. (I’m not saying it’s easy, just that they learn they can handle it.)
Seriously…give yourself some credit here! That thing you’re afraid of — I bet you can totally handle it if it doesn’t work out!
And what if it DOES work out?
MINDSET SHIFT TO OVERCOME FEAR AND SELF-DOUBT #2
Next, let’s talk about how to overcome self-doubt when it creeps in.
Honestly, one of the things that will consistently keep you from living the life you want and feeling happier, is doubting yourself and your abilities.
When we doubt ourselves, we feel small, we play small, and we create small results.
The move here is to build trust in ourselves and our abilities from the inside out.
Day-to-day, this looks like leaning into/practicing believing the following:
1.) You already bring a lot to the table that supports the life you really want to live. Right now, as you are. Meaning – your strengths, your experience, your expertise, your way of doing things.
2.) There’s no one “right” way to live, feel, or be (thinking there is one right way is a pretty common roadblock for us humans). Your way is the right way for you. Period.
3.) You can pretty much handle anything (I bet you’ve got lots of evidence in your life of this already). Remember to trust yourself – whatever happens, you can handle it (or you can get good support to help you handle it).

Lastly, I want to emphasize the importance of listening to yourself…I mean, really tuning into your instincts, your gut, that little voice in the back of your head. Because this inner part of you holds another key to overcoming fear and self-doubt.
But this doesn’t have to be super spiritual or woo woo. Or it can be, depending on what lands with you. The idea here is to pay attention to that deep inner part of you that knows exactly what you want.
Paying attention to this part of you looks different for different people, and can involve meditation, prayer, being in nature, journaling, etc. – basically doing whatever works to quiet your mind, so you can connect with your inner compass (sooo important).
I value connecting with my intuition both from a brain research perspective and because I’ve relied on my intuition to make literally hundreds of important decisions – big and small – and it has never steered me wrong.
Plus, that intuition often trumps our fear and self-doubt, because we start wanting the thing more than we want to play it safe or give into our self-doubt.
The more we honor and nurture our intuition, the stronger and louder it gets, which is the idea!
Don’t forget – working on our mental health and mindset, so we can overcome fear and self-doubt is often faster and easier when we have support!
