Dora Valencia, LCSW
My goal is to provide a safe and welcoming environment that is free of judgment, when embarking on your journey of healing and self-improvement.
Welcome. It takes great courage to take the first step in seeking support for past or current experiences. As a therapist, I use a collaborative approach to explore areas of concern and establish goals for personal growth and change.
My Practice
I have experience working with clients related to depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, Bipolar Disorder, domestic violence, family and relationship conflicts, body image, grief and death, self-esteem, cultural difficulties, and LGBTQIA+ issues. I help clients who feel out-of-control in their lives feel more control over their symptoms and balance in their lives. Furthermore, I draw from treatments such as CBT, DBT, EFT, EMDR, and Solution-Focused Therapy to create a personalized and holistic approach for processing and healing.
I work with adult clients, families, and couples, and can provide services in both English and Spanish. I help Latinx folks feel empowered and educated in navigating cultural and family difficulties. My clients and I work together using Telehealth (video sessions). This is a great option for those navigating a busy life and who have limited time. I would be delighted to meet with you and support you on your journey. Together, we can move past people-pleasing and self-doubt to create more assertiveness, happiness, and freedom.
My Background
My educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from CSU San Marcos, and a Master of Social Work from the University of Southern California. I have experience working with survivors of trauma, domestic violence, and human trafficking, as well as those who have caused harm. I have experience working at a domestic violence and human trafficking shelter and a trauma center. Additionally, I’ve been a part of a crisis response team for those who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. My goal is to help my clients overcome their anxiety and ruminating thoughts and gain feelings of confidence and acceptance.
A fun fact about me is I love to read. Two of my favorite genres are fantasy and poetry. If you have any book recommendations, feel free to bring them to the session. I’m always open to any new recommendations!
